BIOTECH (NOLOGY):

The manipulation (as through genetic engineering) of living organisms or their components to produce useful commercial products (as pest resistant crops, new bacterial strains, or novel pharmaceuticals)

                     - Merriam-Webster Dictionary

"I hate the term GMO (genetically modified organism), and you know, the reason I hate the term is because it's really ambiguous."  -Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, UC Davis Cooperative Extension Specialist in Animal Genomics and Biotechnology. Van Eenennaam says she prefers using the term "genetically engineered" foods, crops, and products because it has a more specific meaning.

"I am for changing the (food) system from the way it is." -Michael Dimock, President of Roots of Change. Dimock says he is not strictly against genetic engineering (in food products), he is against the way it was introduced and how it is being regulated.
